Nightward
Het zijn beelden gevangen  met een plastic speelgoed fotocamera. Ze geven het persoonlijk perspectief van de kunstenaar weer, die op zoek is naar plekken die onze nieuwsgierigheid prikkelen, angst en misschien lang weggedrukte angst. Deze beelden zijn genomen tijdens een roadtrip in het diepe zuiden van de Verenigde Staten.  De Deep South is een gebied waar de kunstenaar ruim zes jaar heeft doorgebracht.  Het is een gebied dat wordt geteisterd door orkanen en dat lijdt onder economisch malaise. Het wordt achtervolgd door haar eigen geschiedenis. Toen Miyuki Okuyama  langs de wegen reisde, kwam  ze in plaatsen  waar een sfeer van troosteloosheid heerste. Het zijn de onuitroeibare obscure plekken  in deze goed georganiseerde moderne , maar toch wel inhumane maatschappij.
Het was een reis die niet alleen tot doel had om terug te keren naar haar school periode,  maar om te zoeken naar een soort van duisternis die is verbonden met het menselijke onderbewustzijn.

Nightward
There are the images captured and represented with personal perspective, using a plastic toy camera, in attempt at searching for spots, which trigger our anxiety, fear and long discarded fear etc. These images are taken during the road trip in the Deep South of the United States. The Deep South is a land where the artist spend good six years. It is an economically suffering, hurricane swept land, haunted by its own history. As Miyuki Okuyama traveled along the back roads, she encountered the places with hint of dreadfulness.
They are the obscure spots persistently remaining in this highly organized modern, yet somewhat inhuman society.It was a journey not just revisiting her school days, but seeking for some kind of darkness that is associated with the human subconscious.
